5 Infinite Life Lessons by Wayne Dyer

Wayne Dyer is an American philosopher and is a pioneer in the field of self-development. Having spent his childhood in orphanages and foster homes, Dyer managed to overcome his difficulties seek his purpose, fulfil his goals and spent his time teaching others to do the same. Sadly, Dyer passed away in August 2015 of a heart attack but he leaves behind his infinite wisdom. Five lessons by Wayne Dyer include:

  1. The things you look at change

When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

Einstein, a great scientific mind asked an important question – how do you view the universe, a hostile or friendly one? How you see the world is exactly what you will create for you in your life. Interestingly this perspective is not a play on words and when you actually change the way you view life, how you see things will differ.

Dyer illustrates this with a unique example. You drop your keys in the house. It is dark and you scrummage around on the floor to look for them. Despite your best efforts you are unable to find them. You look out the window and see the street light on and have a light bulb moment. You venture outside and think with the light now on you can find your keys so you hustle to the ground in search of your keys. Your neighbour comes along and enquires what you are doing, you mention that you are looking for your keys so he too drops down to the ground to help you search for them. He then questions where you dropped the keys to which you reply in the house. Your neighbour is completely baffled as to why you would search for your keys outside when you had dropped them inside and you continue to explain that that it did not make sense to rummage for the keys inside the dark when there was light outside.

Dyer explains the above scenario is exactly how you are in life. When confronted with a struggle you tend to search for the answers outside when in fact the answers are within. You are the one experiencing the struggles, yet expect others outside or factors to change to make your life work. The answers are within.

  1. There are no justified resentments

It does not matter what people say to you, what anger is directed towards you or even the hate that shows up in your life, there are no justified resentments. If you choose to carry any kind of resentment whether it be words or actions you only harm yourself. Let go of the resentment towards the person who never repaid your money, the person who walked out of your life and all the other resentments you hold in your life that you feel right to be resentful about as they will only harm you.

  1. What you think about you become

It all begins with how you think all day and what you think about expands. When you realise this, you become more careful about what you think about and filter out the negativity and what you do not want in your life.

  1. Have a mind that is open to anything but attached to nothing

When you close your mind to what is possible for you, you shut the door to the genius within. Having an open mind means opening yourself up to the possibility that anything and everything is possible for you. When you are attached to nothing, even the slightest offences of language and behaviour of others will not bring you down.

  1. Don’t die with your music still in you

You have a purpose in this life and many of you are afraid to listen to it, maybe it is a book you want to write, a song you wish to compose, or raise horses whatever your purpose, seek it out and go do it. Leo Tolstoy in his famous novel The Death of Ivan Illyich asked this question – What if your whole life has been wrong? The tragedy would be to get to the end of your life and realise that you would be leaving not having lived or fulfilled your purpose.
